Michelle Cross is obsessed with her music. "I [play and write music] all the time. When I don't have a job I'm playing 14 hours a day. When I do have a job I play 4 or 5 hours a day. I have to do it everyday… as much as I can squeeze in." She describes her songs as therapeutic and very personal. "It's like my journal" although she admits she likes to "steal shoes" a lot.
Sprinkled with classical influences and firmly supported by strong vocals, Cross's songs tend to have a darker moodier feel to them. At times, there is a lot of aggression and rhythm in her piano playing, yet even at its most gentle moments her powerfully emotional and melodic piano-based songs have caused listeners to sit-up and pay attention." What's going on
It's been a while since anything's been posted so I thought I'd let you know what we've been up to. In case you weren't aware, we have a full band gig coming up on March 19th at the Elbo Room. Unfortunately, the mighty Bebe will not be able to play the show, so we have recruited the help of bassist Tom. It will be interesting to see how it will turn out, but we're feeling good about the show right now.
However the absence of Bebe also means we will be postponing the live recording at Pop's as well. Not to fear, Michelle is playing Pop's in May and we'll make sure to get a recording then.
A couple of nice reviews of Michelle's music have been turning up online. Go check out the United Global Artists site and their spotlight on Michelle. And our new best friend Allie posted a great blog about Michelle's music at Beautiful Pain, a blog devoted to Women in Rock. Go check them out and maybe see what other music is available through these sites.
Recently Michelle and I got together to demo some new songs. No, you won't be able to hear them- these are demos we are working on for the next album. Already we both have a good feel of what the vibe and tone of the album will be. It will definitly be different from Smoke, but still very much Michelle.
That's all I have for now but I'll be sure to post more soon. There are some things floating around and we're just waiting to see where they land. Right now we're mostly focused on the upcoming show. We'll be sure to post all the details about what goes down when that happens as well.
