Biography
Michelle Cross is obsessed with her music. "I [play and write music] all the time. When I don't have a job I'm playing 14 hours a day. When I do have a job I play 4 or 5 hours a day. I have to do it everyday… as much as I can squeeze in." She describes her songs as therapeutic and very personal. "It's like my journal" although she admits she likes to "steal shoes" a lot.
Sprinkled with classical influences and firmly supported by strong vocals, Cross's songs tend to have a darker moodier feel to them. At times, there is a lot of aggression and rhythm in her piano playing, yet even at its most gentle moments her powerfully emotional and melodic piano-based songs have caused listeners to sit-up and pay attention." New Design is Live!
Michelle gave the go-ahead, so I've finished and implemented the new design. Tell me it's pretty. If you don't, I may have to break down and have a little cry. You'll notice that everything is simpler, a bit more elegant, and in your face. Not in a horrible way, of course, but in your face nevertheless.
Also, dearest ones, there is new content! I've worked up some simple wallpapers of old photographs of Michelle. Light editing, rotating, fiddling, and voila! It's not magic, but they're pleasant to look at, yes? Do I win something? No cookies please. If you're the sort to poke around you may notice that the blog archives are still reflecting the old website. I am not sure why this is as the archives are supposed to be automatically converted into the new design via Blogger upon publishing. Apparently Blogger is either broken or slow. Let's pray for slow as I do not have it in me to work up a good mad. A mild annoyed I can do, but a good mad is simply out of reach right now.Never fear! I've figured it out. I am a delirious genius!
That's about it, folks. I've worked tirelessly for a total of two nights, am hopelessly in love with how clean the site looks, and am possibly a bit delusional from the sleep deprivation I've managed to give myself. So, having said that, and being extremely clever, I am off to bed.
Enjoy!
[Edited to add: Apparently this site is so far only optimized for IE 7 and Firefox. I'm working on fixing it so that it atleast renders properly in IE6. Sorry about that everyone!]
[Edited to add again: So far I cannot fix it so that IE6 renders the exact same way. My only option is to remove the two top and bottom borders where links and copyright information sit. I think, however, that for the meantime I am going to leave it as it is and encourage the Internet Explorer v6 users to upgrade. If something comes to me in the middle of the night, I will get out of bed and work on the site some more. Thanks everyone.]
Comments:
Just wanted to say that the new design looks great. Not that the previous one was horrible or anything, but this is leaps and bounds greater.
The new sidebars and everything are very user-friendly.
Although, it would be great if Michelle could upload higher-res photos of herself... since the new Wallpapers are suffering from some major pixelation.
Other than that, the new updates are top notch.
Oh yeah, one last thing. The link to "Big Fish" in the downloads section has never worked, and was kinda hoping that the new update would remedy that? I don't know, maybe it's just on my end.
Thanks for the great site Brianna. And most of all thanks to Michelle for all her work, she's truly an artistic genius.
Thanks for the feedback! I've fixed the mp3 issue, so Big Fish is working. As for the wallpapers, when I click on the corresponding links for 800x600, 1026x768, and so on, they don't appear pixelated. Is this just on my end, or did you mean the sample images are pixelated?
Post a CommentVery nice! The layout seems to work well, and looks very professional. Thank You!
A few things worth considering for fine tuning the site...
- Turning off word wrap. If someone would resize the main window or make it smaller, the text layout could get goofed up. I use Firefox...not sure if this happens in IE7.
- Adding a link for past/future shows would be nice. (Hopefully Michelle will play a whole bunch in 07 to make up for 06) ;)
- A tad more color could possibly spice up the site even more.
Yes...I agree with the other post as well. More photos, maybe even some live shots :)
Anyway...very nicely done Brianna, and keep up the good work!
Steve
