Michelle Cross

Biography

Michelle Cross is obsessed with her music. "I [play and write music] all the time. When I don't have a job I'm playing 14 hours a day. When I do have a job I play 4 or 5 hours a day. I have to do it everyday… as much as I can squeeze in." She describes her songs as therapeutic and very personal. "It's like my journal" although she admits she likes to "steal shoes" a lot.

Sprinkled with classical influences and firmly supported by strong vocals, Cross's songs tend to have a darker moodier feel to them. At times, there is a lot of aggression and rhythm in her piano playing, yet even at its most gentle moments her powerfully emotional and melodic piano-based songs have caused listeners to sit-up and pay attention." Silence is Golden
It has been noted on the boards but, for those not keeping up with discussions held there, it's worth mentioning here:

The silence that has settled over this community-for it is one and, after all, we're all Michelle's monkeys-does not mean Bad Things.

Michelle is constantly at work on her music, both when time does and does not permit. Her loyalty to her creativity does not, however, over rule the fact that food and shelter happen to be a requirement. So, she's busy earning for that.

The fanbase for her music is still not large enough to carry the burden of necessities such as a roof overhead, food in the stomach and, uh, toilet paper. Until that happens we're all shuffling around, working to keep everything going.

Michelle has told me she's hard at work on new songs for the next album. Mat has a constant Plate of Busy, not to mention he flies around to places like Prague. He calls it work, I call it an excuse to hear my beg to tag along. Ha!

In the meantime, keep spreading the word. Run your CDs ragged so that you have to buy all new ones, if you have to. Just remember that silence does not equate a permanent silencing of an artist's voice-we're all just scurrying in the background.
