Michelle Cross

Biography

Michelle Cross is obsessed with her music. "I [play and write music] all the time. When I don't have a job I'm playing 14 hours a day. When I do have a job I play 4 or 5 hours a day. I have to do it everyday… as much as I can squeeze in." She describes her songs as therapeutic and very personal. "It's like my journal" although she admits she likes to "steal shoes" a lot.

Sprinkled with classical influences and firmly supported by strong vocals, Cross's songs tend to have a darker moodier feel to them. At times, there is a lot of aggression and rhythm in her piano playing, yet even at its most gentle moments her powerfully emotional and melodic piano-based songs have caused listeners to sit-up and pay attention." Holla!
Hello friends! It's Michelle...

Hope all is well in the world out there. I'm so excited about this video Brandis made of our show - it's from a few years back, I know! I'm sincerely working towards arranging *some* shows for this year. I do enjoy playing for people - very much, actually - but it can be SUCH a pain in the ASS, that my lazy nature usually shrugs it off. Oh, and I go to bed terribly early too. Nonetheless, I've got new tunes that I'm dying to try out with the band (Henry, Matty Poo and with some luck, Tom too! POSSIBLY Bebe AKA Michael Duggan??). Matty Poo and I fell off our "recording covers" boat, but perhaps we'll be getting back into that too. I think we're just all a bit disassembled from the holidays, etc. My day job has me travelling quite a bit too. But it's all calming down soon, and I will be able to focus on music once again. It really has felt like a looong time since I've sat at the ol' pianer. I think my neighbors are wondering if their Resident Canary has gone and died. I haven't. Just stalling, as usual...

I do thank you for your continued support. I don't own a computer, but I do look at my MySpace stuff sometimes - it's SO lovely to hear from old familiar folks! It tickles me so. And Brianna - she's my Tinkerbell. I'm so grateful for her constant upkeep of my dusty website - thank you and HOLLA!!

Video of "Big Fish"
Brandy has offered up a live video of Michelle performing "Big Fish" at the Elbo Room in 2005. The audio may be a little much in some places, but it's worth posting and sharing.

I hope you all enjoy it and leave a comment to thank Brandy for her show-and-tell.
